San Leandro Studies Tenant Relocation: The City of San Leandro is studying a program that would require property owners to provide relocation assistance to their tenants if the tenant is: evicted without cause; if the owner moves into the unit; if the unit is demolished; or if the owner is making capital improvements to the unit.

The proposed assistance would be payments to the tenant equal to: two month’s rent, plus moving expenses, plus $1,000 for special-circumstance households.

A tenant evicted due to one of these circumstances would be eligible for the relocation assistance if they have lived in their unit for five or more years and if the rental unit is in a parcel with two or more tenant-occupied units.

The San Leandro City Council will review the proposed program during their Sept. 6 meeting.
