Governor Declares Drought Emergency: On Friday, Jan 17 Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency in response to drought conditions across the state.

The proclamation declaring the state of emergency will trigger more than a dozen responses from state and regional water agencies including:

  • Water Transfers: The Department of Water Resources and the State Water Resources Control Board will facilitate voluntary water transfers between water rights holders to help meet demand.
  • Water Shortage Plans: Local water agencies  implement their water shortage contingency plans in an effort to avoid water rationing.
  • Funding for Increased Supply: State water agencies will accelerate funding for water supply projects scheduled to start construction this year.

As of Friday afternoon, none of the regional water service agencies including East Bay Municipal Utilities District, Alameda County Water District, Dublin San Ramon Services District, and Zone 7 had officially responded to the declaration.
